what’s in a name?

My name means “alive.” There’s this song that I think of whenever I think of the meaning of my name. Here are some lyrics, from Tomorrow by Tablo (ft. Taeyang):

“사랑은 받는다고 갖는 게
시간은 걷는다고 가는 게
사람은 숨 쉰다고 사는 게
아닌데.”

Basically the last two lines translates to “breathing doesn’t mean you’re living.” You can be breathing but sitting at home, simply passing time with nothing to show for it. Even though I don’t do anything remarkable, I enjoy…well, being alive. I love spending long hours at bookshops (Topping & Company Booksellers is my favorite here in Bath) and I like walking across the Mass. Ave bridge at dusk because I get to feel the wind in my hair and watch the sun rise. I think my name fits me perfectly.

Not to mention that my full name means “lively,” which fits me quite well.
